HOOKED UP. The inaugural exhibition at the new Moss Gallery featured 41 commissioned textile works by artists at Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California, shown in concert with the iconic P40 lounge chair designed by Osvaldo Borsani for Tecno, Milano. Both serve as striking and disparate examples of "outsider" art.
Serving over 140 adult artists who are severely mentally, physically and emotionally disabled, Creative Growth Art Center provides professional creative art programs, educational and independent living training, personal counseling and vocational opportunities.
The P40 Lounge Chair was designed in 1954 and resulted from an exhaustive early exploration of technical industrial solutions to adjustable upholstered furniture for the home. The P40 fuses mechanical functions with organic, ergonomic forms which are archetypal of the period.
